Twitter Wall

This week students have started using our Twitter wall in lessons. Students are selected and come and write a short statement about their learning, and use a hashtag demonstrating which of the twelve learning skills they have demonstrated. So far we’ve only introduced two skills – communicating with others and coming up with ideas.

The teachers have had as much fun with the wall as the students have! Some of our ‘tweets’ so far have included:
@KeiranP I drew up four badge designs. I like to #comeupwithideas.
(Keiran Packer, 7NT)

@ZaraM I drew 4 different designs for different logos for our theme parks #comeupwithideas.
(Zara Mehmood, 7MT)

@Mrs_J I have really enjoyed my first lesson in the Zone and #coming up with ideas!
(Mrs Jolly)

Theme Park Projects

By Priya Patel

This week we have started a theme park project. My group’s theme is called Candy Land. My part in this project is to design the logos for the theme park. The other three parts are pin badges, menus and t-shirts. I have really enjoyed this project so far. I hope I can do it again!

This week we have been describing all about us. We started the week by making scrap books of about ourselves, however not every one has finished. Then we tried our best to persuade Miss Bedwell to lend us a five pound note but unfortunately that was far more harder than I expected. I expected that it would be pretty easy! I got Learner of the Week for knowing about similes and metaphors. I have achieved a bronze badge and also got a rubber, pen and my name on the school website.
Today we started answering some questions on a sheet, looking at meanings for persuasive techniques. We did this because we want to be our house captains. We have to write a speech and present it to our houses if we want to be elected.

Our First Full Week

We have been very busy this week – so busy, in fact, that I forgot to nominate students to write our blog posts! I promise to try harder in future lessons (but really, if we get carried away with the work, can you blame me?).

We have spent a lot of time completing work that is autobiographical. Students have made collages in the shape of gingerbread people, with lots of pictures to show us things that they are interested in, such as footballs and games consoles. We have made personalised handprints, with various bits of information written on each part of the hand, such as our family members and likes and dislikes. Both of these tasks will help to complete our house banners, now that students have been sorted into the four houses.

We have also started work on the About Me booklets, with students thinking about the kinds of things that make them who they are, but in a little bit more detail than some of the other activities.

Finally, we started working on learning about persuasive techniques, so that we’re ready to write our campaign speeches for those students who wish to be house captains and vice captains. It’s a big task!

Oh, and students have also had reading and spelling tests, but they’re not very fun so we’ll skip over that part…

We have lots of exciting activities to look forward to next week, along with the announcement of our new Learners of the Week. Who will it be???

Miss Bedwell.

Quadblogging

We’re signed up to take part in Quadblogging this term. We’re linked up with three other schools – Collegiate High School in Blackpool, Gorsey Bank Primary School in Wilmslow, and St Michael’s Grammar School from Victoria, Australia. We’ll be blogging here each week, and on set weeks we’ll have a special focus on each of the blogs in our quad. They’ll be focusing on us as well – what a great way to get in touch with students from around the world! For more information click here. We’re quad 32!

Our First Week

By Callum Hitchen

Wednesday was our first time in the zone. We did a sorting ceremony where we put a hat on and we had to pick a colour from a box. The colours were blue, red, yellow and green. We had our pictures taken in the hat when we were picking our colours. The colours represented a house. If you get 5 Vivos you get a star, and the house with the most stars wins.
Today we made collages of what we like. I put a football, fitness equipment and an ipod. I have really enjoyed my first week in the zone.

Welcome to Skills for Learning!

Welcome to Skills for Learning 7MT, 7GH and 7NT! All of your teachers and I are very excited to get to know you all, and to start the creative learning activities that we get to do down here in the Zone!

One of the first activities we do in Skills for Learning is to sort each student into a house – red, blue, green or yellow. How will we do this? Which house will you be in?
